MEDHRID

Presentation by Prof. Brian D. Willems, PhD, at the „International Conference on Gender Studies and Intermedial Narratives“, Madrid, March 5–6, 2026

25.03.2026.

Prof. Brian Daniel Willems, PhD, held a conference presentation titled Gendering Inter-Brain Synchronicity in E.M. Forster, Dorothy Richardson, and Golnoosh Nour at the II International Conference on Gender Studies and Intermedial Narratives: Bodies / Texts / Media: Gendered Narratives and Critical Assemblages, held at Complutense University in Madrid on March 5 – 6, 2026. The presentation is related to his research activities within the MEDHRID project, where he investigates the figure of the Mediterranean woman in Croatian literature. His approach in the research is based on the “spatial turn,” one of the most significant developments in 20th-century theoretical thought, applied not only to the reading of literary texts but also to reflections on society and culture. This presentation adopts the concept of cognitive understanding of time and space, examining its relationship to gender. It is applied to a previously studied literary corpus and will be further extended to a corpus developed within the framework of the MEDHRID research project. Additionally, Prof. Willems was engaged in discussions with professors from various Spanish universities regarding issues of gender in literature within the Mediterranean context.
