The research conducted by Mladenko Domazet, Full Professor, investigates how the broader processes of the First World War impacted the town of Hvar at a microhistorical level. As no existing scholarly study has addressed Hvar from this local perspective during the First World War, this research is both timely and necessary. Relevant archival sources are located in the Municipality of Hvar, as well as the parish and diocesan archives. The project’s innovation lies in its comprehensive examination of the wartime period from a local perspective, encompassing aspects such as everyday life; repressive and restrictive measures; mobilization; wartime propaganda; food supply; land resource management and other economic activities; price fluctuations (inflation); child-rearing and primary education; the role of women; the green workforce; public health; war casualties; and the island’s networks and communications.
